When does spring start?
Astronomical spring begins at the equinox, when the Sun crosses the celestial equator and day and night are roughly equal. In the Northern Hemisphere that is the March equinox (March 19–21); in the Southern Hemisphere spring starts at the September equinox (September 22–23). Meteorologists use whole months instead: spring is March 1 in the north and September 1 in the south.
