How to find the days between two dates

  1. Enter a start date and an end date (either order works).
  2. Tick Include the end date if both days should count, e.g. for a hotel stay counted in days, or an event that runs Monday to Friday.
  3. Read years, months, and days, plus total days and weeks.

How the difference is calculated

Whole months are counted from the start date first; leftover days come last. When the start is on a day the end month does not have, the month ends on its last day: January 31 plus one month is February 28 (or 29).

Example: 2024-02-28 to 2024-03-01 is 2 days, because 2024 is a leap year with a February 29 in between. The same dates in 2025 are 1 day apart. With the end date included, each total grows by one day.

Frequently asked questions

Should I include the end date?

Leave it off for elapsed time (Monday to Tuesday is 1 day). Turn it on when you are counting calendar days that both belong to the period, like a Monday-to-Friday event, which is 5 days.

Why can months and days look uneven?

Months have 28 to 31 days, so "1 month" is not a fixed number of days. The total days figure is always exact.

Does it handle leap years?

Yes. Every date is converted to a day number on the Gregorian calendar, so February 29 is counted in leap years and skipped in others.
