How to find an age gap

  1. Enter two birth dates. Names are optional and only used in the result.
  2. The difference shows in years, months, and days, plus total days and weeks.

The gap is counted from the older person's birth date to the younger person's, whole months first. Example: 1990-03-12 and 1994-11-02 are 4 years, 7 months, 21 days apart (1,696 days). The gap in days never changes, but it is always the same number of years only until the older person's next birthday comes round.

Does the age difference change over time?

No. The gap between two birth dates is fixed. What changes is how big it feels: a 5-year gap is huge at 10 and small at 50.

What is the half-your-age-plus-seven rule?

A popular rule of thumb says the younger partner should be at least half the older partner's age plus seven. It is a rough social guideline, nothing more.
